The Harrison County History Of Coal Museum is located in the lower level of the Puskarich Public Library. Meeting will be held in the large meeting room. 


Videos will be shown in the museums theater room form 9:15am -10:45 and during any open times.  

We will break for lunch.  We normally go to a near by restaurant.  We are considering having lunch brought into the meeting room this year.

Monthly Harrison Coal & Reclamation Historical Park membership meetings are currently held the first Tuesday at the Harrison County Visitors Center 143 South Main Street Cadiz, Ohio @ 6:30pm.

​26th Annual Dinner-Auction


Because of scheduling problems, 2020’s Dinner-Auction will be held at the Hopedale VFD Social Hall 103 Firehouse Lane Hopedale, OH. The Dinner-Auction will be held on May 9th with doors opening at 4:30pm., dinner at 5:30pm, followed by speaker, and the auction at 7:30pm. The guest speaker will be Chris Runyan President of the Ohio Contractors Association.  Something new at the event, will be a “Chinese Auction”. Tickets are $20.00. The 2020 Harrison Coal & Reclamation Historical Park calendars are ready for purchase. Locally, they can be purchased for $10.00 each at  the Puskarich Public Library 200 E Market St., Cadiz, OH and at the Harrison Visitor Center 143 S. Main St., Cadiz. OH. The 2020 calendars feature the Marion made #5561 “C” 40 cubic yard shovel, “The Wasp”. It began operation in 1949. The Wasp was assembled near the  Duncanwood railroad siding.  This calendar was sponsored by the Harrison Co. Tourism Council, Leonard and Dolly Ferraro, Sue Adams, Kelley Michelli and Marilyn Monzula.

​Reminder: 25th Annual Harrison Coal & Reclamation Historical Park Dinner-Auction "Life &Times of Big Muskie/ Partial auction list.

Just a reminder for those that had made reservations or need to make reservations that the 25th Annual Harrison Coal & Reclamation Historical Park will be held May 11, 2019 at Sally Buffalo Park's Wallace Lodge 100 COLLAGE WAY or 43000 INDUSTRIAL PARK RD, CADIZ, OHIO. This is a reminder for those that had made reservations as far back as February that the event is this Saturday and those who need to make them please get your reservations made.

Doors will open at 5PM, Dinner will begin at 6 PM, Auction will start around 8pm.

Dinner followed by keynote speaker Steve Hook, Retired Hook will speak and do a PowerPoint presentation about the life & times of Central Ohio Coal Company's Big Muskie the worlds largest dragline ever built. 2019 marks the 50th anniversary of the dedication of Big Muskie held May 22, 1969. THE CENTRAL OHIO COAL COMPANY IS FAMOUS FOR HAVING BIG MUSKIE THE WORLDS LARGEST WALKING DRAGLINE EVER BUILT, HAVING MANY DRAGLINES, SHOVELS, & THE MUSKINGUM ELECTRIC RAILROAD

HOOK is a RETIRED CENTRAL OHIO COAL COMPANY ENGINEER & CURRENT MORGAN COUNTY, OHIO ENGINEER. HOOK AND HIS WIFE MICHELLE LIVE IN MORGAN COUNTY, OHIO. HOOK LOGGED 33 YEARS WITH AEP, VIRTIALLY ALL OF IT AT CENTRAL OHIO COAL COMPANY, WHERE HE HELD STINTS AS RECLAMATION ENGINEER, ENGINEERING SUPERINTENDENT, AND OPERATIONS SUPERINTENDENT BEFORE HIS RETIREMENT. HAS BEEN MORGAN COUNTY ENGINEER SINCE 2005 AND IS RESPONSIBLE FOR MAINTAINING OVER 342 MILES OF ROADS & 210 BRIDGES. "EVEN WHEN I WAS WORKING AT THE MINE, I ALWAYS THOUGHT I WOULD LIKE TO BE COUNTY ENGINEER" HE REMEMBERS. "WORKING AT CENTRAL OHIO COAL COMPANY WAS GREAT TRAINING," HOOK SAID. " I WAS INVOLVED WITH THE MINE'S HAUL ROADS AND I DEALT WITH STATE & FEDERAL AGENCIES, JUST LIKE I'M DOING TODAY."

Our Auctioneer this year is Steve Birney, who has done this once before for us, has been associated with Harrison Co. Farm Bureau and 4-H all his life and we look forward to him providing some fun on the auction block. Some items to auctioned are a hand crafted American Flag made of wood designed to hang on a wall by Jeff Roscoe, local chainsaw artist of JR Creations and a chainsaw sculpture of a bear with hard hat & miners light donated by local chainsaw artist Dan Kidd, of Conotton Creek Woodworks. For those planning some get away time we currently have attraction & sports related tickets that will be auctioned off for Dollywood, Grease at the Benedum Center, Amish Country Theater, Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, Pro Football Hall of Fame, Columbus Crew, Akron Rubber Ducks, Cincinnati Reds, Children's Museum of Pittsburgh, National Aviary, Mahoning Valley Scrappers, Cleveland Monsters, COSI, Pittsburgh Pirates and Washington Wild Things. The dinner is a buffet style dinner that includes fried chicken, beef, mashed potatoes and gravy, noodles, green beans, salad, desert and drinks. Tickets are $20.00.

Hook speaks about the life and times of the "Big Muskie" in the coal fields of southeast Ohio and the Central Ohio Coal Company. The Central Ohio Coal Company is famous for having Big Muskie the world's largest dragline ever built, having many dragline, shovels, and the Muskingum Electric Railroad. This year marks the 50th Anniversary of dedicating Big Muskie into service held on May 22, 1969.

Speaker Bio: Hook and his wife Michelle live in Morgan County, Ohio. Hook logged 33 years with AEP, virtually all of it at Central Ohio Coal Company, where he had stints as reclamation engineer, engineering superintendent and operations superintendent before his retirement. Has been Morgan County engineer since 2005 and is responsible for maintaining 342 miles of roads and 210 bridges in Morgan County, Ohio. "Even when I was working at the mine, I always thought that I'd like to be county engineer," he remembers. "Working at Central Ohio Coal Company was great training for being the county engineer," Hook said. "I was involved with the mine's haul roads and I dealt with state and federal agencies, Just like I'm doing today".
